Visitor data in cities: Miniseries, part 3
In this episode, David discusses how cities can collect and utilize visitor data, and provides practical tips for getting started. Don't...
Footfall Data WiFi
Up to 50% Lower cost
Make Visitor Analytics easier and more cost-efficient. Use existing wifi networks to collect footfall data and identify patterns.
Thanks to new WiFi technology we can collect footfall data and quickly identify patterns. The technology captures anonymous Wi-Fi signals from mobile telephones.
If you already have an existing WiFi network installed from Aruba, Huawei, Cisco or Ruckus chances are good that you can use your network to collect data without having to do any installations.
If you don't have a WiFi network, you can add access points to cover the area.
The technology is based on over 10 years of academic research and has been thoroughly tested and validated.
IMAS analytics platform Xperio
With existing or new access points you can collect data in buildings and outdoors and quickly identify patterns such as people flow, dwell time, and the number of visitors. You also get access to new KPIs such as unique visitors and correlation between various zones in the physical store.

Signals
It is estimated that approximately 85% of the population has WiFi enabled on their mobile telephones. When switched on, it sends pings 7-15 times a minute to locate a network.
Collect
The signals are collected and sent to servers. The data is processed before storage.
Analyse
The process is analysed and approved by the Swedish Data Inspection authorities with GDPR taken into account.
Ready-to-use
The data is ready for use and is presented in compliance with GDPR. The data could be used separately or in combination with other data sources.
Footfall data wifi uses a statistical approach
Footfall data using WiFi networks use a statistical approach and works the same way as an opinion poll, meaning you do not ask everyone, you ask until the poll is within the right margins for error.
The system is based on an on-the-spot double-check, and then various filters (RSSI, etc.) form the basis of the calculation.
Integrating Leading Technologies for Enhanced People Movement Insights
In many cases, you can combine WiFi technology with sensors to tailor-make and pinpoint your needs. If the network is short of reach and you can add more WiFi-access points. if you don't have a Wifi network available you can easily add access point to cover the area.

GDPR COMPLIANT – Simple and Secure Technology
The data collection and data cleaning are done completely anonymously, the only information saved is the anonymous telephone's position, and all personal data is deleted within a few microseconds. Everything is done according to GDPR regulations.
The technology is the only of its kind in Europe to have approval from a European Data Inspection Authority

Improve decision-making on a regular basis
Thanks to the data collected from smartphones you are quickly able to identify patterns and monitor deviations. Knowing the also provides a more accurate picture of establishments and values.
City centers, buildings, and shopping centers use the system in order to improve everyday work and decision-making on a regular basis.
We Provide WiFi Measurement together with Bumbee labs
In 2008, our partner Bumbee Labs began developing its product to measure and track visitors using wireless networks. The work was initially initiated together with the largest retail chain in Sweden to position goods and improve indoor navigation. However, around 2010, Bumbee Labs, together with Swedish city centres, came up with the idea of taking the step of developing the solution to outdoor environments. Today, IMAS and Bumbee Labs have a close partnership.
